ROTARY'S HEARTFELT BOOST FOR CARDIO CLUB

Dronfield Cardio Club has received a heart-warming boost, thanks to the Rotary Club of Drone Valley.

A donation of £700 has been made to the Cardio Club from Drone Valley Rotary Club's Community Services Committee Fundraising. The money was raised by a Christmas concert -held by organist and Drone Valley Rotarian Glyn Madden. Glyn is a founder member of the Dronfield Cardio Club and wanted to be able to support the club as this year's concert beneficiary .

The cheque was presented to the Cardio Club on Monday 5 February by Dr Gill Harvey, Chair of the Rotary Club of Drone Valley's Community & Vocational Services Committee.

Dronfield Cardio Club was created in 2002 to offer exercise and support for cardiac and stroke victims, and to help them back to a normal life. It is self- funding and relies on donations such as this to survive.

Treasurer of Dronfield Cardio Club David Axe said: "This wonderful donation means that we will be able to carry on offering exercise and interesting speakers for our members. We have an active membership of more than 90 people and regularly see around 50/60 people attending our weekly meetings. We have had to cut back on a few things recently, and we would like to bring back the swimming instruction if we can. This donation will make a huge difference to our membership and will hopefully allow us to bring some of the activities back. We are extremely grateful to the Rotary Club of Drone Valley, and Glyn Madden, for their support."

Gill Harvey, Chair of The Rotary Club of Drone Valley's Community Services Committee, said: "Our Rotary Club is delighted to be able to help such an important local community service. Glyn held this year's Christmas Concert in aid of Rotary Community Charities. As he is a member of the Cardio Club, and has suffered heart problems himself in the past, he wanted to be able to give something back and support the club, to which our club wholeheartedly agreed. We very much hope this makes a big difference the lives of many people in our area."

The Rotary Club of Drone Valley incorporates a wide variety of local people from an array of professional and business backgrounds, and is committed to helping and supporting the local community in any way that it can. Rotary is an international service organisation of 1.2million business and professional men and women who, as volunteers, address needs of their home and international communities. With the motto 'Service Above Self', the main objective of Rotary is service -in the community, in the workplace, and throughout the world.
